Which punctuation mark --

Your Score: Dash

You scored 30% Sociability and 52% Sophistication!

There's no denying that you have a certain flair. You don't mind being around others, especially your little brother, the hyphen, but you rarely emerge except when needed. You respond well to those who know how to treat you, but have only contempt for those who don't--you tend to embarass them every chance you get. Your only enemy is the colon--he will sometimes try to move in on your turf.

Weird materialism

We were watching re-runs last night, as they were not bad, and interspersed with a new fantasy FBI show that never made it. Bones began with a particularly disgusting image of a body liquifying (deliquescing you might say) in a bathtub, which was then the excuse for a lot of gruesome jokes, but a much lighter treatment than the same opening scenario as treated by CSI.

It struck me as a terribly gothic horror image, completely the reverse of Frankenstein. Instead of building up a person, taking him apart, into chemical components. Like a witch's brew, or a Nazi doctor. And the good laboratory investigators try to put the information back together, even if they can't give it life, the divine spark. Here in the future for identification purposes you might use either DNA, or a wallet. Very weird materialism going on.

The person in the tank, like a giant test tube, is a common accoutrement of the mad scientist's laboratory -- X-Men for example, or the magician's underwater escape in The Prestige too (which we just saw last week), and all the way back to Edgar Rice Burroughs' The Monster Men.
