new year

Did I say that out loud?

"Looks like you could use some help shelving," I remarked to the nice librarian. I was browsing the DVDs, and she had begun shoving videos and DVDs into not nearly enough shelf space. She turned to me and brightened visibly.

"We've lost a lot of our volunteer base," she muttered. Just a half hour here or there could maybe help a lot, I continued. I haven't actually shelved stuff since I was in seventh grade in the school library, I was one of those librarian's little helpers. Except I did have that job years later in the Law Library at University of Miami. I told her I would talk to the Guy later when I get back in town (and have thought about it more) about setting something up.

I walked out thinking, OMG, what have I got myself into? Does this have anything to do with anywhere I actually want my life to go? Breaking out again in that Volunteers of America thing, when I have been trying to cut back on activities to where I can better succeed at the ones left.

Library people are nice to hang around with, and these ones are already in my neighborhood. Fact is, I'd really rather not have a regular scheduled thing, since I struggle with that already, but just drop in on my walk, as I do, spend a half hour putting stuff in order which is so much easier somewhere else than it is at home, and then be on my way again.
